According to a recent report by L’Equipe (via the Daily Express and the Daily Mirror), Manchester United are close to sealing a move for Olympique Lyonnais starlet Florent Da Silva during this summer transfer period. The same source has revealed that the Red Devils are in advanced talks with Lyon and are set to make an “imminent” offer for the French midfielder whose contract runs out in the summer of 2020.
The Recent Emergence Of Florent Da Silva
The 16-year-old was born in Vaulx-en-Velin, France and joined Lyon at an early age to develop as a player. He is currently an integral member of the French outfit’s Under-19 team and has featured in two matches for them thus far.
He has put in two eye-catching cameos off the bench for Lyon in the UEFA Youth League matches against AFC Ajax and Barcelona respectively in the previous campaign. Unfortunately, the Catalans knocked out the Ligue 1 outfit in the quarter-final stage of the competition with a 3-2 scoreline.
Da Silva has also represented France at the Under-16 level and has put in two impressive displays for them against the Estonia Under-17 side back in March. He found the back of the net in both those games which has raised his stock in European football.
What Does The French Wonderkid Offer On The Field?
Da Silva primarily operates as an attacking midfielder and has shown in the recent past that he can deliver for his team when the spotlight is on him. The French teenage sensation thrives under pressure and has the potential to become a world-class midfielder in the coming years. He is a potent goal-threat from long range and can pass the ball accurately in the opposition half.
Is Da Silva A Prospect For The Future?
However, he is too inexperienced and would need time to hone his skills so that he can play at the highest level someday. A change of scenery could help Da Silva develop as an attacking midfielder.
However, he might find it challenging to adapt to life in a foreign country at this stage of his youth career. There is no doubt that Da Silva is a prospect to look out in the future as he has the makings of a future star.
