According to former Leeds United striker and BBC commentator Noel Whelan, Marcelo Bielsa held talks with Jurgen Klopp regarding the future of Ryan Kent. The Argentine manager attended Liverpool’s preseason game against Bradford on Sunday. And Whelan revealed to Football Insider that the major reason for that was to look at Kent and build rapport with Jurgen Klopp.
Whelan’s update on Kent
Whelan said, ”Bielsa was probably at Bradford looking at Ryan Kent, There’s no reason for him to go there rather than Australia unless it was beneficial for him. Ryan Kent has been spoken about before. I think Bielsa has met with Jurgen Klopp after the game. If there is interest and conversations going on it, it is worth talking with his manager. There’s no harm in building up a rapport with Klopp.”
Rangers and Leeds are the two teams said to be interested in the Liverpool winger. However, the future of Kent is still undecided as he is a part of Liverpool’s squad for the pre-season tour to the USA. With Liverpool’s front three involved in a more extended season due to their commitment to the national team, Kent and other youngsters are likely to get a good look in almost all the preseason games.
Kent had a hand in all the three goals which Liverpool scored against Bradford and reports came out from Daily Record that Jurgen Klopp seems to be impressed with the winger. The same report mentioned that Rangers were still first in the queue to get the Englishman.
Why will Kent be an excellent signing for Leeds United?
His fearless approach and ability to take on defenders would make him a joy to watch at Elland Road if he settles in well at the club. The winger improved big time last season while playing for Rangers and even won their young player of the season award. His work rate will also make him a good fit for someone like Bielsa.
The English winger showcases impressive strength on the ball and his finishing and decision making in the final third is ever improving. Every time he got on the ball for Rangers, he made things happen for them. It seemed like he wanted to prove something.
A player like Kent would be a massive addition for Leeds United. We think that he will be an upgrade over the likes of Jack Harrison and Ezgjan Alioski down the left flank. It remains to be seen now whether this meeting between Klopp and Bielsa would bring fruitful results in the future as Leeds look to sign the 22-year-old on a year-long loan deal.
