According to Daily Mail, Norwich City are among the clubs interested in the services of Leyton Orient’s Dan Happe. The young defender is considered as one of the hottest prospects in England outside the top flight, and a move to Premier League could be on the horizon this summer, with Norwich and Leicester City both keen on securing his services.
Orient’s initial wish is to keep the player following a remarkable campaign, but interest from a host of clubs across the Premier League might force the League Two outfit to let go of Happe, whose current deal at the club expires at the end of next season. That means the defender could leave for free if they fail to offload him this summer.
Happe’s breakthrough campaign at Leyton Orient
A product of the Leyton Orient youth academy, Happe has been a part of the first team since 2017. He made an impressive 26 appearances during his debut campaign with the first-team but fell down the pecking order at the start of last season.
As a result, the young defender ended up making just two appearances during the first half of the campaign. But, since his performance against Salford at the start of the year, Happe has once again become a first-team regular for the club, ending up making as many as 20 appearances. 18 of those 20 games came since the turn of the year.
Only this time, the 20-year-old played a significant role in guiding Leyton Orient back to League Two. As a result, he has attracted the interest of many top clubs across England and rightly so.
Will Happe be a good signing for Norwich?
Happe has impressed the onlookers with his composure on the ball as well as his ability to win back possession for his team. He has also shown that he is capable of playing at a higher level, but it’s probably needless to say that making the jump from League Two to Premier League could be extremely challenging for the youngster.
The Canaries should definitely go after the defender given his immense potential but sending him back to Leyton Orient on a season-long loan deal might not be a bad idea. It will help him gain more experience while simultaneously benefitting his current club, who will be keen to impress upon their return to League Two.
