According to the latest reports from the Daily Telegraph as cited by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United will complete the signing of Wolves winger Helder Costa. The winger has reportedly said his goodbyes at Wolves, and the move is now likely to go through in the coming week.
This update should be music to the Whites faithful as Costa has the potential to be a game-changing signing. The Whites came perilously close last campaign, but they failed to take their chances and struggled in the last few months of the season.
A player like Costa might help them fill that gap as the Portuguese ace is a proven quantity at the Championship level. He played a massive role in getting Wolves to the Premier League in the 2017-18 campaign. The winger provided six assists and five goals.
The winger made 30 appearances for Wolves last season in all competitions. He struggled to get game time due to some ambitious signing made by the West Midlands club in the summer of 2018. Nevertheless, we feel that the Whites are getting a Premier League pedigree player for a season in the form of Costa.
The club is desperately in need of signings who can make an impact to the first team straight away, and the signing of this Portuguese international is likely going to help them a long way into bringing them back in the Premier League.
Where is Costa likely to play?
The 25-year-old is predominantly a right winger, and we feel that he is likely to slot in his preferred position. However, he can fill in as the man up front as well as a left winger. Pablo Hernandez had an impressive campaign last season playing down the right.
But he doesn’t have the pace anymore to run the fullbacks ragged, and the Spaniard often drifted inside to get on the ball in central areas. We believe, Hernandez could easily fit into the starting lineup as the attacking midfielder. Therefore Costa should be able to fit in on the right flank.
What will he add to the team?
One of the areas where the Whites struggled last season was finishing off their moves. Costa can be a far more clinical winger, and he is likely to have a positive impact. His pace and ability to go past defenders with ease will always keep the opposition fullbacks on edge. Moreover, his work rate and experience should be a bonus for Bielsa.
