According to a recent report by Tuttosport, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to make a £31.26m bid to secure the services of Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen during this summer transfer window. However, the same source has also mentioned that Spurs will face stiff competition from Arsenal, AC Milan, AS Roma and Olympique Lyonnais in pursuit of the Serie A centre-half in this off-season.
Joachim Anderson’s Impressive Form For Sampdoria Last Season
The Danish talent has enjoyed a solid season with Sampdoria in the last term after he put in a string of impressive displays at the back in the recently concluded Serie A campaign. The 23-year-old featured in 32 top-flight matches for Marco Giampaolo’s side last season, making 1.3 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per game in the previous campaign (Stats taken from Whoscored).
The Frederiksberg born defensive ace has also represented his nation at various youth ranks and has the potential to play an integral role for Denmark in the coming years.
Andersen’s commanding performances helped Sampdoria avoid relegation from the Serie A last season. Tottenham could benefit from bringing him to North London ahead of the new season as he has all the makings of a classy defender.
What Will The Danish Defender Bring To The New White Hart Lane?
The former FC Twente prospect is versatile enough to assume multiple roles across the pitch. He primarily operates as a centre-back but is equally capable of playing in a deep-lying, holding midfield position at the middle of the park.
Anderson is a dominating presence at both ends of the pitch and can make crucial interceptions for his side in his own half. He keeps a cool head under pressure and also has the temperament to succeed at the top level. However, the Danish sensation can sometimes be caught ball-watching and does not possess the ability to play the ball out from the back. So his style of play might not suit Tottenham, a club known for its attacking brand of football under Mauricio Pochettino.
Recruiting Andersen: Good Move For Pochettino?
Even then, Andersen is a good defender who would significantly bolster Spurs’ defensive options heading into the new campaign. All in all, the Dane would be an intelligent acquisition for the North London giants this summer.
