According to a recent report by the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are demanding Marco Asensio as part of the deal which would see Christian Eriksen move to the Spanish capital during the summer transfer window. However, the same source has also mentioned that Los Blancos are not looking to part ways with their prized asset and has even declined an approach from Juventus for the Spanish sensation.
In a recent interview, Eriksen made his desire to leave White Hart Lane public when he told a Danish newspaper (via the Sun), “It might be time to try something new.”
It is quite likely that Spurs might be forced to cash in on the Dane this summer, so it only makes sense for them to demand a quality player like Asensio in exchange for Eriksen. Asensio had to endure a frustrating season at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the previous campaign, but he still managed to put up good numbers on the stats sheet.
Marco Asensio’s Career In A Nutshell
The Spanish playmaker kicked his youth career off at RCD Mallorca’s Academy before he made a high-profile switch to play for the Galacticos in the summer of 2015. However, Asensio struggled to prove himself at Madrid and was loaned out to Espanyol so that he can gain more first-team experience. His loan spell at the RCDE Stadium helped him improve as a winger which in turn enabled him to break into Zinedine Zidane’s senior team back in 2016.
The 23-year-old scored six goals while grabbing seven assists in 44 matches for Real Madrid this term across all competitions. He has also earned 24 international caps for Spain so far, registering one goal for his nation in the process.
What Will The Spanish Wide Player Offer On The Pitch?
Asensio has decent pace under his belt, which helps him complete some dazzling dribbles with the ball in the opposition half. He can also pick out a defence-splitting pass in the attacking third of the pitch as evidenced by his tally of 13 assists for Los Blancos over the past couple of seasons. Furthermore, the Spaniard is also starting to add goals to his game from wide positions.
However, Asensio needs to work on putting in a consistent run of performances at the highest level if he wants to become one of the best wide players in Europe someday. Thus, a move to Spurs could be an ideal opportunity for him to make a fresh start and fulfil his true potential in the coming years.
