According to a recent report by UOL Esporte (translated by the Metro), Chelsea have received a £17.8m offer from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua for Willian, but the Brazilian talent has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge this summer. The same source has revealed that Shenhua has offered the playmaker a big three-year deal worth £12m-a-year, which is significantly more than what he is earning at Chelsea right now, but Willian has no intention of relocating to Asia with his family.
Willian’s Worrying Form But Successful Season At Stamford Bridge
Willian had to endure a mixed campaign under Maurizio Sarri last season. Even though he struggled to score enough goals in the Premier League last season, the 30-year-old still managed to win the UEFA Europa League with the West London giants earlier this summer.
The Brazil international had featured in 56 matches for the Pensioners last season, scoring eight goals while creating 14 assists in all competitions. He is also vastly experienced at the international level, having earned 63 caps with Brazil while registering eight goals for them across various tournaments.
Willian has proven his worth in the English top-flight since his move from Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer of 2013. He has transformed himself into one of the best playmakers in Premier League football and so his desire to stay at the Bridge for the immediate future will be a big boost for Chelsea.
What Does The Brazilian Bring To Stamford Bridge?
Willian boasts decent pace and is a very penetrative dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is always willing to take on his marker to create openings for himself or his teammates around him.
Retaining the Brazilian for at least one more season would go a long way in helping the Pensioners cope with their transfer ban which was handed by FIFA earlier this year. A winger of Willian’s ilk doesn’t come around often in the transfer market and so Chelsea would be better-suited keeping him at the club for one more season before replacing him when he calls it a day at the West London club.
Willian’s Desire To Stay: Huge Boost For The Pensioners?
At 30, Willian still has a few years left in his locker to perform at a high level, so his inclination to not move to the more lucrative lands of China will be a massive boost for the Pensioners ahead of the new season.
