According to BBC, Everton are ready to complete the signing of Andre Gomes from Barcelona. The Blaugrana are willing to let go of their midfield ace, who was a key player in the last term for the Toffees after his arrival on loan from Nou Camp.
The Portuguese midfielder paired up well with Idrissa Gana Gueye in the heart of the pitch for the Toffees in the last term during his loan stint. The Merseyside club had been looking to add the 25-year-old midfield maverick to their squad for the next term, and it finally seems that they have been able to negotiate terms with the Catalan giants to bring Gomes to Goodison Park on a permanent basis.
Everton’s Midfield Maestro
Everton had a decent outing in the last season under the tutelage of Marco Silva. After a disastrous 2017/18 season, the Toffees looked determined to bounce back in the Premier League as they brought in reinforcements to add to their squad. Many players including the likes of Yerry Mina, Bernard, Lucas Digne and Andre Gomes were added to the team, and they dished out some decent performances to ensure Everton finished their season in the eighth position in the Premier League table.
Gomes’ connection with Gueye in the middle of the pitch was one of the most formidable partnerships in the last term for the Toffees. The Portuguese midfielder, who could not make any mark for the Blaugrana since his arrival at Nou Camp, repaid his compatriot Silva for showing full faith in him with stellar performances. Marco Silva made no delay in making a move to bring Gomes to the Merseyside club on a permanent deal.
Good Decision By Silva
If the move is completed, it will come as a big boost for the Toffees ahead of the next term. With both Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies not being able to make their mark in the limited number of opportunities they had in the last term, the inclusion of Gomes could be very significant as far as Everton’s starting lineup is concerned.
From the Portuguese midfielder’s point of view as well, the move is going to be one which will help him reinstate his career. With the 25-year-old enforcer set to be handed a permanent spot in the Everton starting lineup, it would be the end of a nightmare for him after he was used mostly as a substitute by Ernesto Valverde.
With the likes of Arthur, Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal fighting for a starting spot in the Barcelona lineup, there is no chance the Portuguese ace can make it into the first team. So his move to Everton on a permanent basis is an appropriate one from his as well as the Merseyside club’s point of view.
