According to Talksport, Liverpool are set to battle it out with FC Barcelona and SC Braga in the race to sign Paris FC striker Silas Wamangituka. The 19-year-old has impressed in the Ligue 2 in the recently concluded 2018/19 campaign and has attracted the interest of a host of top clubs across Europe, including Champions League winners Liverpool.
It is believed that Paris FC are holding out for a large sum for their prized attacker, with reports from Portugal claiming that they have already rebuffed offers ranging from €4-5 million.
Wamangituka’s productive season at Paris FC
Since his promotion to the senior side of Paris FC back in September of last year, Wamangituka has emerged as a crucial part of the Ligue 2 outfit. The youngster featured in as many as 32 league matches since making his debut in August.
Wamangituka’s 11 goals in 32 matches played a critical role behind an excellent season that saw Paris FC finish fourth in the league table. He was notably involved in seven goals in his last 12 games. Hence, there’s no wonder why he has become such a sought after attacker in the market this summer.
What can Wamangituka bring to the table?
Wamangituka is advertised as an explosive forward, who is blessed with excellent close control that allows him to dribble his way past defenders, even under tight spaces. It also allows him to maintain his composure on the ball while his electric pace makes him a threat on the counter.
Furthermore, the youngster tends to drop deep and pick up balls from midfield, which is an invaluable asset for any modern day forward. However, he does lack balance at times, mainly due to his tall 1.89 frame while his decision making is also questionable at times.
Should Liverpool make a move for Wamangituka?
Wamangituka indeed boasts a lot of potential and considering his style of play and work ethic; he could be an ideal fit for Liverpool’s gegenpressing brand of football under Jurgen Klopp. However, a move to Premier League this summer might come a little too soon for the youngster, given his lack of experience at the highest level of football.
Liverpool should make a move for Wamangituka this summer but letting him stay at Paris FC for another season might be a wise decision, provided they do manage to attain his services. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this transfer saga.
