As reported by Express, ESPN FC expert Julien Laurens claims PSG have opened the door to sell Neymar this summer. The Brazilian superstar has been linked with a return to Barcelona this summer, but the French outfit have identified three clubs who have the financial capability of making a move for Neymar – Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“I got it all confirmed tonight, PSG have not just opened the door, they have crashed the door, the door is gone, they want him out. They think it’s the right time for him to go. Plus, they think there’s only three clubs who can afford him right now, afford him and want him, and that’s Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona.”, Laurent told ESPN FC.
Neymar’s productive but disappointing spell at PSG
Neymar joined PSG in a world record fee of €222 million from Barcelona back in 2017. Since then, the Brazilian has enjoyed two productive seasons having scored 51 goals and providing 29 assists in 58 matches for PSG across all competitions.
However, his progress at the French capital has been marred by injuries. Neymar missed the chunk of his debut campaign in Ligue 1 due to a metatarsal fracture, which minimised his overall game-time to just 1,797 minutes of league football. He also made only 14 appearances in the recently concluded 2018/19 campaign, mainly due to a foot injury.
What can Neymar bring to the table?
Neymar really needs no introduction. The Brazilian international is regarded as one of the top three players in the world by many fans and experts alike. His trickery on the ball coupled with his immense technical ability makes him a scourge for the opposition defenders.
The 27-year-old is also known for his sheer pace that helps provide a genuine threat on the counter. Moreover, Neymar is a threat from long-range while lethal finishing makes him one of the best wide-attackers in football.
Should Manchester United make a move for?
It’s needless to say that PSG will demand around the same price they paid for Neymar two years ago – a fee Manchester United can’t afford at the moment despite their financial superiority in the Premier League. The Red Devils are in the process of a transition after a turbulent campaign. And manage Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to build his team around young players, who are fully committed to playing for the club and has the room for improvement.
Although Neymar will undoubtedly add significant bite into the Manchester United attack, his addition to the table will financially cripple the Premier League giants as they aim to undergo a squad overhaul this summer.
