According to Jamie O’Hara, Liverpool could beat both Manchester United and Real Madrid in the pursuit of Christian Eriksen – as reported by Express. The ex-Spurs midfielder believes that the Reds will want to make a late swoop for the Tottenham Hotspur superstar, who has been linked with a move away from North London this summer.
“[Liverpool] need a central midfield player. I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that they might try and take Eriksen from Tottenham as he’s in the last year on his deal. He’s the type of player they need.” – O’Hara said.
Christian Eriksen’s success in the Premier League
Eriksen has become one of the world’s best playmaker after joining Tottenham Hotspur in a €13.5 million move from Ajax back in 2013. The Dane has enjoyed six productive seasons at North London, helping Spurs become one of the powerhouses of European football under Mauricio Pochettino.
During his six-year spell with the club, Eriksen has made 277 appearances in all competitions, during which he has scored 66 goals and provided 86 assists – making him the most productive Spurs player during this period.
However, the ex-Ajax prodigy has recently opened up about his ambition of trying something new, after guiding Tottenham to the UEFA Champions League final this past season. And a move could be on the horizon.
What can Eriksen bring to the table?
One of the things that make Eriksen such a world class player is his ability to adapt. The 27-year-old can adapt to different tactics and situations and even different roles, which was prevalent when Pochettino used him as a number eight during the second half of the campaign.
Aside from that, his obvious qualities are passing, ball distribution and chance creation while the Dane is also proficient when it comes to set-pieces. In fact, it is one of his biggest strengths.
Why Liverpool should make a move for Eriksen
Eriksen will be a stunning addition to Liverpool given his aforementioned qualities not just in chance creation but also in terms of his overall work-rate. The 27-year-old can be utilised in the 4-3-3, where he will be partnered by Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum making the Liverpool midfield much more effective than it already is.
Although it is unlikely that Tottenham will let go of arguably their most important player to their direct rivals in the league this summer, Liverpool have a glorious chance of signing Eriksen, whose contract at the club expires at the end of next season. That means he will be available for free next summer, but with the player already looking for a new challenge, Spurs could be forced to cash in on the Danish international this summer – allowing the Reds to make a move.
