According to the latest reports from the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are expected to sign Jack Harrison again on a loan deal. The reports of the Whites wanting him came out earlier as well, but it was mentioned then that Manchester City were looking for a permanent deal and were valuing him at the price of £20m.
However, now it seems like some sense has been knocked back into the City board and they might send the winger again on a loan deal to Elland Road. With the kind of talent the Citizens have, Harrison would find it hard to even get on their bench, so it is no surprise that the Premier League Champions are expected to send him away once again.
Harrison’s assessment from last season
Harrison was just about average in his performance at the West Yorkshire club last season as he was guilty of being unproductive in the final third. There were numerous occasions when Marcelo Bielsa subbed him off at half time as he was unhappy with what the Englishman was providing on the pitch. However, as the season went by, Harrison showed some signs of improvements, and he made some useful contributions here and there.
We still feel that Bielsa can look for better alternatives, but having Harrison again on loan wouldn’t hurt anybody. The Whites are after some more wingers as well, so maybe the City winger might only be utilised as a backup option next season.
The winger contributed with four goals and three assists in 37 Championship appearances last season. There is no doubt that a more clinical winger would have come up with better numbers.
The Englishman though needs to be applauded for his impressive work rate and desire. His movement was also sharp in the final third, and there is that talent in him which probably made Bielsa decide towards working with him again. Moreover, he would already be used to playing in Leeds United’s system so there shouldn’t be any problem of him taking time to settle in at the club.
Still a decent bet as a backup option
The Englishman’s decision making and first touch need to improve if he wants to thrive at this level. The fact that the Whites didn’t have many options, and Ezgjan Alioski was equally below par in the left wing role resulted in Harrison getting regular game time. Leeds United are also looking to sign Ryan Kent after his impressive season with Rangers. Nevertheless, Harrison will be a decent addition on loan for bringing competition for places and adding depth to the squad.
