According to the Scottish Daily Mail, as cited in Daily Record’s live transfer blog (7:37), Rangers are closing in on a loan deal for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent. This might come as a bit of a surprise as recent reports are doing the round that Leeds United have joined the race and Aston Villa are also interested in the English winger.
But if it’s true, then this could come as a massive boost for Gerrard and Co in their build-up for the next season. The Gers were able to challenge Celtic until the midway in the title race, but they lost their steam in the second half of the season. However, Rangers showed enough positive signs, which might suggest that we are going to have a much closer season on our hands.
Ryan Kent could be the man who stops Celtic’s domination as he improved immensely as the season progressed. His performances against the Hoops were breathtaking, and even the Celtic fans would admit that Rangers landing Kent in the summer again could spell trouble for them.
Gerrard has made his intentions clear about the winger for quite some time now, and there is no doubt that he would be trying everything in his means to bring him back at Ibrox. The report suggests that Rangers are confident about landing Kent and this signing wouldn’t have any impact on their pursuit of Sheyi Ojo.
How Might Rangers have beaten their competition for Kent?
The Gers seem to be keen to pack the wide regions for the next season. Kent won Rangers’ young player of the year title, and he too has indicated on numerous occasions that he would like to join the Bears again. Maybe that could have done the trick in convincing Liverpool to send the 22-year-old to Ibrox again as the player settled in well at the club.
Gerrard’s presence at Rangers cannot be forgotten as well as we believe he must have played a significant role in convincing Liverpool to send the winger to Glasgow again.
Big hopes for the next season!
Kent has had a previous stint in the English Championship, and he was far from effective for Bristol City. Even at Rangers, the Englishman started slowly, but as the season went by, he kept on improving with regular game time.
The Liverpool player always had the impressive burst of speed and sharp dribbling skills, but at Rangers, he started to make a positive impact in the final third with goals and assists. His numbers can still improve, and a lot of people will have huge hopes from him if Rangers manage to get him for another year.
