According to the latest reports from Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur, are in a race with Manchester United to sign Monaco’s midfielder Youri Tielemans. The Belgian spent the second half of the last campaign with Leicester City where he impressed, and as a result, he is in demand in the summer window.
Leicester City are also said to be keen on the midfielder, and he is being rated at £40m. Tielemans contributed with three goals and five assists in 13 appearances, and he was crucial in the second half of the campaign when the Foxes went on a good run of form under Brendan Rodgers.
Tielemans on being linked with Spurs and Manchester United
United are in the race as there is uncertainty about Paul Pogba’s future. Spurs need to add a creative midfielder as well as Christian Eriksen announced that he is open to leaving the North London club in the summer. Tielemans recently responded to the transfer links and said, ”(Manchester United and Spurs) are really big teams in England and in Europe so yeah, it’s flattering to hear those names.”
“For me, it’s good; it gives me confidence. I’ll just try to play my game on the pitch and to do my best. I was very well received in Leicester. Things went very fast, but they put me at ease right away. I felt very good on the pitch; I had good team-mates and good coaches. I’m unlikely to go back to Monaco, and after that, it will depend on negotiations.”
It’s clear that Tielemans is going to move in the summer and we are set to have a three-way fight for his signature. Leicester City might be the outsiders, but the fact that he settled in well at the club could tilt the balance in their favour.
What will Tielemans add to Pochettino’s squad?
Spurs also lost Mousa Dembele in January this year, and they require a box to box midfielder as well. Tielemans can play as a central midfielder and as an attacking midfielder so his versatility will come in handy. His vision and attacking instinct makes him stand out, and he also has the knack of arriving late in the box and scoring goals.
We really see the Belgian hitting the ten goal mark for the season for whichever club he signs. The 22-year-old is technically sound, and he is yet to hit his peak years. For £40m, Tielemans seems like a decent bet to us.
