Christian Eriksen recently confirmed that he is looking to move away from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. Something like this isn’t much of a surprise as the Danish playmaker had been stalling new contract talks for months now. Eriksen is set to enter the final year of his contract, and we feel that Spurs should look to cash in on him instead of keeping hold of him against his will.
Eriksen was a significant part of Pochettino’s setup in the last few years, and there is no doubt that he would take some replacing as he contributed with 66 goals and 86 assists in 277 appearances for Tottenham. Outright playmakers are a rare breed to find, and Pochettino will have a major task in the transfer window to find an able replacement. Here are three players which we think can do the job for Spurs.
Giovani Lo Celso
Spurs are heavily linked with the Argentine midfielder after his impressive season for Real Betis. Maybe Pochettino has already chalked him down as a replacement for Eriksen as various reports are claiming that Spurs are close to signing him for £70m. Lo Celso has that creative spark which can open up defences, but he is also known for his powerful running and work rate. His finishing skills are also worth mentioning as he managed to hit 16 goals last season.
Nabil Fekir
The World Cup winner is also expected to leave Lyon in the summer, and he would be an ideal replacement for Eriksen. The 25-year-old contributed with 12 goals and nine assists last season, and he has been a consistent performer for the French heavyweights for quite some time now.
Fekir came close to moving to the Premier League last season, but Liverpool were unhappy with the player’s medical history, and they pulled the plug on the deal. Maybe Spurs can give him a chance in the Premier League, but Liverpool are once again said to be interested.
James Maddison
Another player with whom Spurs are linked at the moment. However, Manchester United have reportedly made him their transfer priority, and Pochettino will have to step up in his pursuit if he wants to get his hands on the Leicester City star. At 22, Maddison is still not in the peak of his career, but he showed last season what he could do for the Foxes.
The Englishman comes alive in the final third and his close quarter control, pace and dribbling skills are impressive. Definitely worth considering for Pochettino.
