According to Daily Star, Manchester City are leading Inter Milan in the chase to sign Lucien Agoume. The FC Sochaux midfielder has impressed the onlookers with his performances in Ligue 2 during the 2018/19 campaign and a move away from France could be on the horizon.
The report claims that City are willing to offer one of their young players on loan to Sochaux as a sweetener in Agoume’s deal. The midfielder is said to be available for just £4.4 million, with his contract running out at the end of next season.
What is Agoume all about?
A product of the Sochaux youth academy, Agoume has been a regular with the French U-17 setup, having featured in 11 matches since making his debut in September of last year. He broke into the professional scene following the turn of the year as he went on to become a first-team regular at Sochaux.
Agoume ended the campaign, making 15 appearances in the French Ligue 2, helping his side somehow survive the wrath of relegation.
As far as gameplay is concerned, Agoume is a robust central midfielder, who likes to keep things neat and tidy in the middle of the park. He has this natural authority that makes him an imposing presence for the opposing midfielders. That means the 17-year-old is often authoritative when it comes to making challenges or holding off defenders.
But, Agoume is much more than just a regular midfield enforcer as he is also blessed with immense technical qualities. Indeed, the youngster can provide accurate long-balls, which coupled with his brilliant vision, allows him to create chances from the deep. The midfielder is not afraid to venture forward with the ball, either – making him a well-rounded player on the pitch.
Where does Agoume fit in at Manchester City?
At this point, it’s probably fair to assume that Agoume will not be made part of the Manchester City first-team in the event of his arrival at the Etihad. Even if the Frenchman does become a part of the team, it is unlikely he will be given many chances to prove himself.
In the long term, however, the 17-year-old has a solid chance of emerging as the potential replacement for Fernandinho. Both the players have similar characteristics and the fact that Agoume is also a technically astute midfielder, arguably makes him a better fit to Pep Guardiola’s Juego de posicion system.
However, it remains to be seen if the youngster manages to integrate himself into the faster-paced nature of English football.
