In a recent interview with the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper shared his opinion on his manager Mauricio Pochettino’s future at the North London club and said, “It is normal to have speculation around all the best managers. I am sure he has an idea of what he wants and only he can talk about that.”
Spurs have enjoyed a brilliant campaign which came to a bitter end at the Spanish capital as they suffered a 2-0 loss versus Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final last weekend. The defeat has thrown Pochettino’s future in doubt at the new White Hart Lane with Sky Sports reporting that Juventus are interested in recruiting the Argentine head coach this summer.
Pochettino’s Stellar Record At Tottenham
The Murphy born tactician is currently one of the best managers in European football so the North London outfit will have a battle in their hands to keep him at the club beyond this summer. The 47-year-old has taken charge of 276 matches for Spurs since his appointment in the summer of 2014, winning 155, drawing 54 and losing 67 of those games thus far.
He also has a healthy PPG (Points Per Game) average of 1.88 to his name during his time in North London (stats via Transfermarkt).
Will The North London Outfit Be Able To Retain Pochettino This Summer?
Pochettino has proven his worth time and time again in English football, but he is yet to win a major trophy in his managerial career. The South American coach has failed to deliver a trophy for Tottenham so far. Thus, the real question is whether he has proven his worth at North London to merit a move elsewhere or if he still has some unfinished business in England to justify a stay with Spurs.
Either way, Tottenham cannot afford to lose their manager as they are very close to tasting success under his tutelage. However, time is ticking so Daniel Levy would need to back him in the summer transfer market if he wants to have a realistic chance of keeping him for the upcoming campaign.
As far as Pochettino is concerned, it could be wise for him to opt for a change of scenery if he does not get the assurances he seeks in the transfer market. The Argentine’s situation is pretty similar to what Rafael Benitez is going through at Newcastle United. Now the ball is in Tottenham’s corner to decide whether they want to splash the cash on new acquisitions to try and convince their manager to remain at the club for the long-run.
