In a recent interview with Record (via the Metro), Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes has admitted that he prefers a move to Liverpool over Manchester City and said, ‘I like Liverpool a lot more [than Man City]. It’s a more direct [style of play], more offensive, maybe less organised, but more intense football.
‘City, without the ball, has the intensity of the eleven, and can in a moment of pressure put the [opposing] team in a corner and end up stealing the ball.
‘In Liverpool they are more individual players, especially in the midfield, usually playing three very aggressive players and recovering the ball.’
Fernandes’ Excellent Season In The Portuguese Top-Flight
The Portuguese sensation experienced the best season of his playing career as he helped Sporting CP earn a strong third-place finish in the league standings. The 24-year-old had put in a series of match-winning performances for the Portuguese outfit in the recently concluded Liga NOS campaign. His remarkable goal-scoring returns last season saw him named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year. The talented midfielder also garnered praise from Jose Mourinho who shared his opinion with Eleven Sports (via the Metro) and said,
‘I was surprised by the season of Bruno Fernandes.
‘It was easy to predict quality, he is a very good player, but scored a very high number of goals for a midfield player.
‘It shows that you need to have instinct and qualities to score, and he has it all.
‘He strikes the ball well, heads well, cool when he is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He finds space in the penalty area. It’s all there.’
The former Udinese prospect had registered 32 goals while creating 18 assists in 53 matches for Marcel Keizer’s men last season in all competitions. The Sporting CP skipper has also secured 11 international caps for Portugal and has scored one goal for his country thus far.
What Will The Portuguese Number 10 Bring To Anfield?
Fernandes can complete penetrative dribbles from midfield which makes him such a dangerous threat in and around the opposition penalty box. The Portuguese midfielder can also distribute the ball accurately and has a wide range of passes under his belt. What makes Fernandes such an exceptional talent is his ability to finish off chances in the final third.
His record at Sporting CP last season was second to none when it came to players operating in his position across Europe’s top leagues. However, there are some question marks over whether he would be able to make a smooth transition to the Premier League, which is renowned for its physical nature and unpredictability.
Should Klopp Make A Move For Fernandes This Summer?
Fernandes will undoubtedly bring a lot of goals and assists to Liverpool’s midfield if Klopp can find a way to lure him Merseyside this summer. The Portuguese sensation could also be the missing piece in Klopp’s Premier League jigsaw as the German head coach tries to steer the Reds to a title triumph next season.
