Celtic have been continually linked with a move for Charlton Athletic’s midfielder Joe Aribo. However, reports earlier suggested that Aston Villa are the favourites to sign him in the summer. Even Rangers have been linked with a move for him, but we feel that Celtic need someone like Aribo more than Rangers.
Recently reports (The Scottish Sun) emerged that Charlton Atheltic had offered him a chance to extend his contract with them. The midfielder is soon going to be out of contract, but the Englishman now has a chance to stay at Charlton. They also won the playoffs against Sunderland, and the club is hoping that playing in the second division might be enough to persuade Aribo to sign a new contract.
Charlton boss Lee Bowyer had indicated that the decision is for the player to make and he will not stand in his way if he wants to move away from the club. With Olivier Ntcham attracting interest in the transfer market, we feel that the Hoops should go all out to sign the London born midfielder.
Why Celtic need a midfielder?
Scott Brown isn’t getting any younger, and the Hoops should look to add a dynamic midfielder to their roster. Ntcham’s form in the past year was below par, and we feel that if the right offer comes, then the Bhoys should look to cash in on him.
Why Aribo can be an ideal signing for Celtic?
The midfielder managed ten goals and five assists last season as he helped Charlton get into the Championship. Aribo has been likened with Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira for his playing style and physical attributes.
Aribo can dictate the game in the middle as he can carry the ball from the back and pick out his team-mates with good passes. He can disrupt play as well with his tackles and interceptions, and the Englishman can be a perfect box to box midfielder for the club.
The Hoops only had Ryan Christie who managed to hit the ten goal mark from midfield last season, and they would want to have a midfielder who can be that dynamic player in the middle of the park. Celtic can be a strong force to reckon with if they can pull off the signing of Aribo. Quite a few English clubs are after him but Celtic can offer him a chance to play in the Champions League/ Europa League, and that is something which might go Lennon’s way.
