Liverpool clashed heads with Tottenham Hotspur at the Wanda Metropolitano earlier tonight hoping to win their 6th European Cup in history. The Reds began the match on the offensive and took the lead via Mohamed Salah’s penalty in the second minute. However, Spurs came back into the game and dominated possession in the first half, but they couldn’t score the equaliser before half-time.
The second half was more of the same with Spurs looking for the precious leveller while the Reds sat back and soaked the pressure. Divock Origi came on and scored in the 87th minute to put the match to bed. The Champions League final ended with Liverpool emerging victorious with a 2-0 scoreline and becoming the new champions of Europe!
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the match against Spurs.
GK: Alisson Becker – 9/10
The Brazilian goalie was a Goliath at the back in the second half when the Tottenham attackers tested him with a string of late attempts. However, he never looked like he would concede a goal tonight. Alisson was the man of the match by a country mile!
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 8/10
The English youngster defended well and put in some dangerous box into the Spurs box.
CB: Joel Matip – 7.5/10
The Cameroonian centre-back had a few nervy moments in defence but kept his composure to keep the Tottenham attackers at bay.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 8/10
The Dutch defender kept Harry Kane in his back pocket and also made a couple of excellent last-ditch clearances to deny Spurs from scoring on the night.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 8.5/10
The Scottish fullback didn’t put a foot wrong in the match. He controlled the game well in his own half and whipped in some inviting crosses from the left flank.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 7/10
The Liverpool captain was full of energy and running in midfield, but he lacked the cutting edge in the opposition half.
CM: Fabinho – 7/10
The Brazilian midfielder did the dirty defensive work at the centre of the park. He would be proud of his performance tonight.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 5/10
The Dutch midfielder had a quiet game for the Reds. However, he wouldn’t care about it as Liverpool ended up winning the Champions League.
RM: Mohamed Salah – 8/10
The Egyptian winger kept his composure to convert the penalty in the 2nd minute. His pace caused a lot of problems for the Tottenham defenders.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 5/10
The Brazilian forward found it tough linking up play in the Spurs half. It was a rare off-night from him.
LM: Sadio Mane – 8.5/10
The Senegalese speedster worked his socks off down the left wing. He was the one who earned the penalty, which helped Liverpool take the crucial lead in the final.

The English veteran gave his team more control in midfield.
ST: Divock Origi – 8/10
