According to a recent report by the Times (via Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur will have to fight it out with Arsenal in pursuit of AFC Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek during the summer transfer period. The same source has mentioned that Spurs are hopeful that they can get a deal done to bring the Eredivisie talent to the new White Hart Lane ahead of the new campaign.
Donny van de Beek’s Rapid Emergence In Dutch Football
Van de Beek is one of the most talented young players coming out of the top tier of Dutch football after he had a brilliant campaign with Ajax in the recently concluded Eredivisie season.
The 22-year-old had put in some dazzling displays for the Amsterdam outfit which was highlighted by his match-winning performance against Tottenham when he scored the only goal in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie on May 1st.
The Netherlands international has made 57 appearances for Ajax this term, registering 17 goals while creating 13 assists across all competitions. He has also secured five international caps for the Dutch national side thus far.
What Will The Dutch Midfield Ace Add To Pochettino’s Team?
Van de Beek is all-around midfielder as he can do a little bit of everything while assuming a central midfield role in the opposition half. The Dutch starlet has proven this season that he can pick out a final pass in the offensive end of the pitch. Furthermore, he is also a consistent goalscorer from midfield. The European starlet’s outstanding contributions have helped Ajax win the Eredivisie title earlier this month.
Is Van De Beek The Right Choice For The North London Outfit?
The potential addition of a midfielder of van de Beek’s talents will be a big boost for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad ahead of the new season. The Ajax wonderkid has all the skillset to succeed under a world class manager like Pochettino if Spurs can find a way to win the battle to recruit him this summer.
Tottenham should not have any problems competing with Arsenal in the transfer market as their North London rivals do not have the lure of Champions League football and will not have as much money to spend in the coming months. Thus, Pochettino shouldn’t hesitate in bringing van de Beek to the new White Hart Lane in this offseason.
