In a recent interview mentioned by Marca, Villarreal CF winger Samuel Chukwueze has shed some light on his future and said, “I am aware that there are several interested teams, but I am still a Villarreal player and there is nothing concrete.
“It’s good that I am linked to great clubs, because that shows that hard work has its reward.
“I do not want to rush to go to another club. But if I ever had to leave, I should make sure I go to a club where I’m going to play.”
The Daily Mirror had claimed earlier this month that Liverpool were willing to sell Xherdan Shaqiri to fund a move for the La Liga winger during the summer transfer period. However, the player now seems to have cooled talks of an exit from the Estadio de la Cerámica in this offseason.
It is evident from Chukwueze’s comments that he wants to play regular first-team football so unless Jurgen Klopp decides to sell either Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah (laugh along with us) this summer, it is difficult to see how the Nigerian wide man would get his desired amount of game time at Anfield next season.
Chukwueze’s Impressive Season In Spain
The Umahaia born talent has enjoyed an incredible season with the Yellow Submarine after putting in a string of match-winning performances for them during the recently concluded La Liga campaign. Chukwueze graduated from the Diamond Academy before his big move to Villarreal CF in the summer of 2017.
During his time in Spain, the Nigerian speedster has worked his way up the club’s youth ranks before finally securing a regular starting berth in Javier Calleja’s first XI. The 20-year-old has featured in 38 matches for Villarreal CF this term, finding the back of the net eight times while providing three assists in all competitions.
What Are The Nigerian Winger’s Strengths?
Chukwueze can make penetrative dribbles at high speed in the opposition half. He usually tends to hit the target with his shots from long range and packs a lot of power with his attempts as well.
Should The Reds Still Move In For Him This Summer?
There is no doubt that Chukwueze’s acquisition would have bolstered Klopp’s attacking options at the Merseyside club. However, if the Reds cannot ensure him regular first-team opportunities, then it is better for Liverpool to concentrate on some of their other transfer targets in the coming months.
The Nigerian winger will also benefit from staying in the La Liga as the Premier League might be a step too far for him right now.
