Tottenham Hotspur remained unbeaten in the Premier League this past weekend but they could only manage another draw which meant that they were leapfrogged by London rivals Chelsea.
Spurs next face Liverpool at Anfield in the midweek in their League Cup draw. However, a matter of extreme concern that will be looming large over Pochettino’s team is their weekend’s clash against Leicester.
A positive fact is Tottenham have conceded only one goal in their last 5 games as compared to Liverpool’s three (not all that big of a difference though). What they should worry more about is that they have scored only 4 goals as opposed to Liverpool’s staggering 12 goals in the last 5 games.
Defence
Now, although Pochettino is having the luxury of Michel Vorm as a decent enough goalie to replace Hugo Lloris, he is pretty much unlikely to take the option against Liverpool, whose goal scoring form has been more than good this season. And with Premier League becoming more like a four horse game again after a low-key last season, Pochettino will want to win silverware and the League Cup is a pretty good option.
In the defence, despite the loss of Toby Alderweireld due to injury, Eric Dier has been pretty solid and delivered. He is expected to start with him against the Reds. The manager will surely be in a fix with the big weekend match but is expected to start his first team and hoping for no new injuries.
He is expected to start with Danny Rose and Kyle Walker on the defensive flanks with Kevin Wimmer pairing up with Dier. The problem with Vertonghen is he is currently on 4 yellow cards, so he could be rested.
Midfield
Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele are expected to start in the middle despite being put through their paces by a rampant Bournemouth side. Wanyama has been an effective player with already and has even managed a goal from the central defensive position.
Up front, the trio of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, and Eric Lamela are expected to take their position against Liverpool.
Attack
Considering how Liverpool conceded against West Bromwich and the nervy last 15-20 minutes of the game, Pochettino would be keeping his more agile of the two available forward, Heung-Min son. Victor Janssen has been ineffective this season and Harry Kane is yet to return from injury. Young Kevin N’Koudou is expected to come on from the bench.
