According to a recent report by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are close to completing a deal with Swansea City for their Welsh winger Daniel James. The same source has also claimed that the Red Devils will pay around £15m, which could potentially rise to £20m with add-ons, for the Swans talent during the summer transfer period.
The Mancunian outfit had already agreed on personal terms with the player before his father was tragically killed last week which has put the move on hold for now (via Manchester Evening News).
Daniel James: Swansea’s Rising Star
The Welsh prospect has enjoyed a fabulous season at the Liberty Stadium after he put in some dazzling displays for the Welsh outfit during the recently concluded EFL Championship campaign.
James made a switch to Swansea from Hull City Tigers when he was a teenager back in 2014. Since then, the Championship rising star had gradually fought his way up the club’s youth ranks before finally establishing himself as a regular member of their first-team last season.
The 21-year-old has made 38 appearances for Graham Potter’s team, registering five goals while creating ten assists across multiple competitions. His brilliant form for the Swans has not gone unnoticed as he has also secured two international caps for Wales, scoring one goal for them thus far.
What Does The Welsh Youngster Offer On The Pitch?
James has a great turn of speed, which enables him to beat his marker out in the wide positions. The Welsh wonderkid had proven his worth last season when he scored or assisted goals consistently under Potter’s tutelage at Swansea in the second half of the season.
Recruiting James will undoubtedly bolster Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s attacking options in the future. However, for now, he is still quite raw and needs to work hard if he wants to earn a regular first-team berth at Old Trafford someday. With world-class talents such as Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard playing in his position in Solskjaer’s starting XI, it is difficult to see how he would be able to clinch a starting place at the Theatre of Dreams.

Maybe, staying at Swansea, for now, would have been an ideal move for James’ playing career in the long run. However, as far as Man United are concerned, Solskjaer needs to recruit well and build for the future, so James fits the bill perfectly. The Welsh wide man has all the makings of a world-class winger and will be a prospect to watch out for in the coming years.
