According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Chelsea are prepared to replace Maurizio Sarri, who is being tipped to join Juventus, with Derby County manager Frank Lampard in the coming weeks. Corriere dello Sport (via the Daily Mail) has made Sarri the favourite to get the Juventus job this summer which has seen the Pensioners identify their former player Lampard as an ideal successor to the Italian head coach.
Lampard’s Success At Pride Park On His Debut Managerial Season
The 40-year-old has enjoyed an impressive spell in football management after being appointed as the Derby County manager last summer. He has successfully managed to lead the Rams to a playoff finals’ appearance where they will face off against Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium later this month.
The East Midlands outfit could clinch promotion back to the Premier League if Lampard can orchestrate a victory against the Villans on May 27th. Thus, it would be interesting to see whether the London-born manager would be interested in sealing a return to West London even if he wins a promotion with Derby.
Lampard’s Managerial Record This Season
Lampard has taken charge of 56 matches for the Rams thus far, winning 26, drawing 15 and losing 15 of those games this season. He has also got a healthy PPG (Points Per Game) average of 1.66 (Stats taken from Transfermrkt).
Lampard has done remarkably well at the Pride Park Stadium so far, but he is yet to prove his worth as a manager at the highest level. Furthermore, the English boss is still quite inexperienced as he has only managed one club for a single season thus far.
Hence, Chelsea would be better of opting for a more proven head coach as Lampard could turn out to be a massive gamble for them especially when FIFA has banned the Pensioners from signing players for the next two transfer windows.
Will Lampard Be A Worthy Replacement For Sarri?
To his credit, the Derby boss knows Chelsea as a football club from the inside out. Hence, he has every reason to feel confident about his chances of having a successful spell as a manager at Stamford Bridge. However, there is no doubt that Lampard doesn’t have the track record or the managerial pedigree to replace Sarri at the West London club.
