Rangers ended their season with a 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. The tie was inconsequential for the Glaswegian giants as they had already secured the second place with comfort. However, after the game, manager Steven Gerrard gave an update which would warm all Rangers fan’s heart.
What did Gerrard say?
The gaffer gave an update on Ryan Kent and said (Football Scotland), ”We’re doing everything we can. We’ve spoken to Liverpool, we’re in touch with Ryan’s representatives, and we’ve made an offer. But there’s nothing to say on it or to confirm it. For our supporters, what I can do is guarantee that I’m doing everything I can to get him in for another season.”
Rangers would hope that their offer is enough to pursue Kent and Liverpool. Reports had earlier emerged that Liverpool could demand as much as £12m for the English winger and Gerrard had ruled himself out from signing him permanently given the expensive price tag. However, now it is clear that the club is doing everything in its means to sign the winger on another loan spell for a year.
Why Kent’s rise is going to be a problem for Rangers?
Rangers are obviously delighted regarding how Ryan Kent has gone about this season in Glasgow as he improved as the campaign went by. The Englishman played a crucial part in some of the critical games for his team. However, that is also bringing him attention from the other clubs, which is going to be a problem for the Gers.
If a Premier League club comes in with an offer for a loan spell, then Jurgen Klopp might want to send the 22-year-old to those clubs as ultimately Liverpool would wish to prepare Kent for the Premier League. He has had previous loan spells with Championship outfits with limited success, but he managed to find his footing for Rangers this season.
Can Gerrard lure him to Ibrox?
That’s tough to say right now even though Gerrard is known to have a great relationship with the Liverpool hierarchy. However, we don’t think that personal favours would be done in this business deal. If Kent finds a chance to play at a higher level or if Liverpool gets an offer of 12 odd million then the Reds could sell the winger.
The player has insisted on numerous occasions that he want to stay at Ranger so that might work in Gerrard’s favour in the end.
