According to Liverpool Echo, Newcastle United target Yannick Bolasie will be available for a fee of just £10 million this summer. The Congolese international has been out of favour under new manager Marco Silva this term. And the Toffees are contemplating on shipping him out of Goodison Park for the value mentioned above. This will be a massive boost for Newcastle, who are keen to add to their attacking options in the summer transfer window.
Yannick Bolasie’s struggles at Everton
Bolasie initially joined Everton back in 2016 for a fee of £26 million from Crystal Palace. But, his debut campaign at the Goodison Park was marred by a cruciate ligament rupture that kept him out on the sidelines for more than a year.
After that, he never really managed to make an impression in the first-team. In fact, Bolasie is yet to muster 2,000 minutes of league football during his time at Everton. And his three-year stint with the club included two short loan spells at Aston Villa and RSC Anderlecht respectively.
He most recently played for Anderlecht, where he was involved in eight goals in all competitions for the Belgian outfit this season. He has played quite an important role for the Purple & Whites but is set to return to Goodison Park this summer following the end of his six-month loan spell.
To his misfortune, however, Bolasie’s long-term future at Everton is uncertain as Silva looks to refresh his attacking unit this summer following a promising debut campaign at the club. The Portuguese mastermind is already mulling over a move for Aleksandar Mitrovic among many others.
Where does Bolasie fit in Newcastle United?
A move away from Goodison Park is the most logical option for Bolasie. And Newcastle United, to certain extent, are an ideal suitor for the ex-Crystal Palace winger. He will offer more attacking options for Rafa Benitez and also should fit in well from a tactical perspective.
The 29-year-old is a dynamic attacker, who loves to take on defenders. He was even regarded as one of Premier League’s best dribblers during his time at Palace. Bolasie attempted an average of 2.6 dribbles per match with Aston Villa during the first half of the campaign. And this is coupled with the raw pace that allows him to provide a genuine threat on the counter.
Additionally, Bolasie is also an aggressive player, who is always willing to win back possession for his team. He consistently managed over two tackles per game during his time with Palace and even in his first season at Everton. This tunes in well with Newcastle United’s ethos under Benitez, thus making him a tailor-made fit for the Magpies.
