According to a recent report by the Sun, Newcastle United are interested in securing the services of Everton forward Yannick Bolasie who is currently playing on loan at RSC Anderlecht until the end of this campaign. However, the same source has also revealed that the Magpies will face stiff competition from Southampton in pursuit of the DR Congo international during the summer transfer window.
Bolasie’s Struggles In The Premier League
Bolasie has failed to live up to the high expectations surrounding his move to Goodison Park from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016. He has experienced two loans spells at Aston Villa and Anderlecht respectively and has managed to impress for both of those clubs thus far.
The 29-year-old has made a total of 36 appearances during his loan spells this term, scoring six goals while grabbing eight assists in all competitions. He is also vastly experienced at the international level having secured 35 caps and nine goals for his nation thus far.
However, the fact remains that he has failed to make an impact at Everton; hence, a change in scenery this summer could be a wise move for both parties. It is no secret that Rafael Benitez needs to improve his squad in this offseason in order to have a strong team for the upcoming campaign, so Bolsaie fits the bill perfectly.
What Will Bolasie Add To Benitez’s Side?
Bolasie boasts decent pace and power down the left flank which enables him to dribble with the ball at high speed in the opposition half. However, he needs to add more end product to his game if he wants to succeed in the Premier League.
The potential addition of Bolasie will undoubtedly bolster Benitez’s attacking options at St. James’ Park. Furthermore, he will also add a bit of depth to the Magpies squad which might help them clinch a top half finish next season. However, at 29, the Congolese forward is a player on the decline so he won’t be a long-term fix to Newcastle’s goal-scoring problems.
Bolasie’s Move To Newcastle: Good Deal For Everyone Involved?
To conclude, if Bolasie does end up moving to Tyneside, then it will be a good move for all parties as the player will finally get a chance to reignite his career in the English top-flight while the Magpies will be able to bolster their squad depth. Even Everton can use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of their squad.
