According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Manchester United are ready to challenge Paris Saint-Germain to bring Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye to Old Trafford this summer as they reckon the Senegalese workhorse could be a perfect candidate to get the best out of his international compatriot, Paul Pogba. The same source has revealed that the Toffees are aware of Gueye’s desire to depart Goodison Park at the end of this campaign and are set to demand a £40m fee for their prized asset.
Gueye’s Solid Season At Goodison Park
The 29-year-old has enjoyed another impressive campaign for the Blues of Merseyside as he helped them secure a top half finish in the Premier League. Gueye has been an integral part of Marco Silva’s side after putting in some dominant performances for them so far. He has built a reputation as a tough tackling, defensive midfielder alongside Andre Gomes, who acts as the facilitator for Everton at the middle of the park.
The Dakar-born midfielder has featured in 32 matches for the Toffees this term and has two assists to his name across all competitions. More importantly, Gueye has made an average of 4.3 tackles, 2.2 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per match in the English top-flight (Stats taken from Whoscored).
What Does The Senegalese International Offer On The Pitch?
Gueye can cover a lot of ground at top speed which helps him press the opposition attackers quite effectively when not in possession of the ball. He can be considered amongst the best defensive midfielders in English football due to his ability to read the game intelligently under high-pressure situations.
The addition of someone like Gueye will undoubtedly add more bite to the Man United midfield which has often looked shaky this season. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in dire need to bring in some top quality talents in this offseason so that he can build towards a brighter future at the Theatre of Dreams.
Is Gueye A Good Fit For The Red Devils?
Solskjaer’s men have struggled to keep things tight at the back during this campaign and so Gueye can go a long way in helping them fix that problem. He has what it takes to succeed at an elite club like Man United and might just be the man who can help Pogba get his mojo back and be more consistent next season.
