According to SportBILD, Bayern Munich are ready to reignite their interest in Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer. The Chelsea attacker has been linked with a move to Bavaria since the start of the year, and it is believed that the Bundesliga giants are looking for medical clearance for the winger.
Hudson-Odoi’s importance at Chelsea next season
Eden Hazard is destined for a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer. And this could serve as a massive blow for Maurizio Sarri. The Italian has already struggled with a lack of resources in the attacking department this season.
Hazard has been the lone spark in an otherwise dire Chelsea attack. The two ageing wingers in Pedro and Willian have struggled with lack of consistency. Hence, Hudson-Odoi could offer Sarri with some much-needed depth in the offensive department next season.
The youngster, along with Christian Pulisic will inject youthful exuberance to the Chelsea attack that has often appeared overreliant on ageing attackers this season.
What can Hudson-Odoi add to the table for Chelsea
Hudson-Odoi is primarily known for his pace and dynamism in the final third. He may not be as hard-working as Pedro, but his ability to nestle through defences could make him an ideal player under Sarri next season.
Despite playing in only a handful number of games, Hudson-Odoi has averaged over four dribbles per game. He also has an eye for that defence-threading through ball and has averaged over one key pass per game this season.
But, what makes him such an appealing option for Sarri is his physique. Unlike most other young players, Hudson-Odoi has the physical attribute that helps him hold onto the ball. It also allows him to take the pressure exerted from the opposing defender. And this could be ideal in the physically astute nature of the Premier League.
Should Chelsea keep Hudson-Odoi this summer?
Chelsea’s impending transfer ban will restrict them from signing any players in the next two transfer windows. That means they will be unable to sign any Hazard replacement unless the ban is overturned. And if we consider the lack of depth in the attacking department, it would perhaps be wiser for Chelsea to keep hold of the services of Hudson-Odoi this summer.
As iterated earlier, the 18-year-old is equipped with a specific set of traits that could help him thrive at Stamford Bridge. And his combination with Pulisic is something that could reinvigorate Chelsea as they aim to push for the title next season.
