According to the latest reports from the Daily Record, Celtic are keeping track of Charles-Jesaja Herrmann. The 19-year-old forward currently plies his trade in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg where he plays for their u-19 side. Given his impressive performance, the striker shouldn’t be too far off from making into the senior lineup soon.
It is believed that the forward is looking for a club who can offer him first team football right now. The 19-year-old has a long term contract with Wolfsburg as he is contracted to stay with them until 2022. Herrmann is also a seven times Germany u-19 international. Apart from the Hoops, the likes of Everton and Newcastle United are also said to be interested in him.
The forward has managed 12 goals in 25 appearances for his u-19 side, and if he stays at Wolfsburg, then he is likely to get his debut next season. However, the forward could look for a move away from the club, and that is undoubtedly interesting Celtic in the transfer market.
Why Celtic need a striker?
The Bhoys signed Odsonne Edouard last summer for record money. The former PSG man has done well as he has managed 21 goals this season, but he has been injury prone. Celtic will lose quite a few players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Oliver Burke who led the line in the absence of Edouard is likely to head back to West Brom after his loan spell expires in the next few days. Timothy Weah who can also play as the man up front is also set to depart. Leigh Griffiths made himself unavailable, but he should be back and ready for the next season. But we still feel that the club could do with a striker for the upcoming season.
What will Herrmann add to the table?
The youngster can act as a strong targetman as he stands at 6ft2. However, he is no slouch on the pitch as he is surprisingly quick for a player of that physical stature. Therefore the forward can hold up the ball well as well as make runs in between the defenders. Also, his pace could trouble quite a few defenders in the Premiership.
Chances of Celtic signing him?
With Newcastle and Everton also interested, the English clubs can outbid Celtic. However, the forward wants to play regular football at the senior level, and he might find it hard to get game time with the likes of Everton and Newcastle. Therefore, in that case, Celtic might edge it. It remains to be seen how much Wolfsburg would demand their young striker in the summer.
