According to the latest reports from the Daily Star, Celtic are keeping track of Honduran striker Alberth Elis. The forward currently plies his trade in the MLS for Houston Dynamo. The update regarding Celtic’s link with the forward has been given by his international team-mate Emilio Izaguirre.
The left backs recently said, ”Celtic have asked me about a few players from Honduras. They’ve asked me several times about Elis. Who knows? Maybe one day they will sign players from Honduras like me. Honduras has some very good players, but the professional part of things is sometimes missing.”
The 23-year-old forward is going through a good run of form as he has netted four goals in seven starts for Houston. He also has six assists to his name in the last 12 games, and the forward has emerged as a crucial player for his side in the attacking third.
Why Celtic need a striker?
The Hoops broke their all-time transfer record to sign Odsonne Edouard in the summer of 2018. The former PSG striker has had a decent season, but injuries have troubled him on various occasions. Celtic went on to sign Oliver Burke in January who filled in as a striker for a few months. The Scotsman did a decent job, but his form fizzled out soon. Burke’s loan spell is set to expire, and there are no indications yet that the Bhoys will sign him again in the summer.
Therefore the club will need a striker in the summer to fill in for Edouard from time to time. Leigh Griffiths is also likely to be back by next season.
What will Elis add to the table?
Elis is a 31-time Honduras international, and he has often played on the right wing spot. However, the fact that he is useful in the final third makes him a lethal option as a striker as well.
His pace and dribbling skills are his major assets, and we feel that Elis’ agility can trouble quite a few defenders in the Premiership. He also has that physical side to his game which is essential for a striker to thrive in the Scottish league.
Should Celtic get him?
If he is available on a reasonable price, then Elis can be a shrewd signing for the Bhoys. Celtic have had a knack of picking up players from unknown divisions, and they have managed a decent amount of success from it. Once Elis adapts to the new league, he can be a suitable option to have as a striker or even as a right winger.
