Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has said that Marouane Fellaini was a ‘panic’ buy for United.
Former United manager David Moyes signed the Belgian midfielder on the deadline day in 2013 from Everton for £27.5m. Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson after the veteran had decided to retire after a lifetime with Manchester United. United finished in a disappointing seventh position and Moyes was sacked after only 10 months on the charge. Giggs was the caretaker manager for the last four matches that season.
The 42 year old Welsh man said, “I don’t blame David. United had signed players late in the window before. This time was different. It was more of a panic.
“He came in without any of the inside knowledge about how the squad worked: when certain players needed resting, who was right for which game, who needed to be moved on and who needed to be encouraged.
He went on to add, “Sir Alex might not necessarily have had a first-choice XI but he knew exactly what side was needed for each game, and would have that planned weeks ahead.”
