According to a recent report by the Daily Star, West Ham United are interested in securing the services of Newcastle United midfielder Isacc Hayden during the summer transfer period. The same source has also revealed that the English talent wants to leave the Magpies at the end of this season despite establishing himself as a regular first-team starter at St. James’ Park with Rafael Benitez looking for a fee around £20m for his prized asset.
In a recent interview mentioned by the Daily Star, Hayden said, “I think I will be going.
“I have spoken to the club about it and they’ve been open and honest with me.
“So I’m pretty sure the Liverpool game was my last at home.
“It’s not what is best for me or my family to be playing here next season and doing all that travelling.
“It’s unfortunate but the club know my stance and have known it for a year now.
“There are no excuses going into the summer. It’s about getting the deal right for the club and for myself.”
This recent development could pave the way for the Hammers to swoop in and land the English midfielder in this offseason. Manuel Pellegrini needs to solidify his midfield by bringing in some fresh faces in the summer, so Hayden fits the bill perfectly.
Hayden’s Record For The Magpies This Season
The 24-year-old has featured in 27 matches for the Tyneside giants this term, scoring one goal while grabbing four assists in all competitions. More importantly, Hayden has made an average of 3.0 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 1.1 clearances per game in the Premier League so far (Stats taken from Whoscored).
He has also represented England at various youth levels during his international career. However, Hayden is yet to make a single appearance for the Three Lions senior side so a change in scenery could give him the platform to impress Gareth Southgate next season.
What Will The English Midfielder Add To Pellegrini’s Team?
The Newcastle workhorse is a tough tackling defensive midfielder who can make important interceptions for his team. He is also versatile enough to feature in multiple positions across the backline. Hayden primarily operates as a defensive midfielder but can fill in at centre-back or in the right-back position which makes him such a useful asset in Benitez’s squad.
Is Hayden The Right Choice For The Hammers?
He will undoubtedly bolster Pellegrini’s defensive options at the London Stadium and will also add some much-needed depth to the Hammers squad. Hence, Hayden will be an excellent choice for the East London outfit if they want to push on and compete on all fronts next season.
