According to the latest reports from the Metro, Manchester United’s pursuit of Jadon Sancho is in jeopardy after they failed to get a top-four finish this season. The Red Devils are likely to finish sixth, and this could come as a massive blow for them in the summer transfer window.
It was believed that Sancho was open to moving to Manchester United after the Red Devils started to get linked with him in the last few months. However, the latest report is going to be a significant blow for the club. United are going in unknown territory, and they will now find it hard to attract players without Champions League football. Given Sancho’s quality, he can play for any of the top side around the world and Dortmund too would be keen to hold on to him.
Sancho has enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Bundesliga heavyweights as he has managed 12 goals and 19 assists in all competitions this season. It is believed that Dortmund are determined to keep hold of the English playmaker for one more year at least.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to have a big task at hand in the summer and the one area where the club desperately needs reinforcement is the right wing spot. Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have been far too inconsistent for the last few years, and the club is reportedly going to get a war chest of £200m in the summer.
Why United need someone like Sancho?
United desperately need a player who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and make things happen in the final third. At just 19, Sancho has caught the imagination of everyone, and he is already a senior England international.
His pace, touch and dribbling skills make him stand out, and he is only going to get better from here onwards. However, with United falling from grace, they might have to lower their ambition in terms of signing players. It is believed that Sancho could cost somewhere around £100m in the summer. The upcoming summer transfer window is going to be a crucial one for the Red Devils, and poor signings can doom their future further.
What now for Ole?
Their transfer businesses in the past few years haven’t worked well, and another window like that could see them fall miles behind the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. It is no surprise that the club is going to find it hard to lure players after the failure to move to the Champions League and Ole might have to think about other options now after the recent reports regarding Sancho.
