According to the latest reports from the Sun, Everton and Tottenham are going to go head to head to sign Real Betis’ midfield sensation Giovani Lo Celso. The Argentine international joined the La Liga outfit in the summer of 2018 on loan from Paris Saint Germain. Not too long ago, Betis decided to trigger an option to buy the midfielder, and Lo Celso was snapped up permanently for £21.5m.
However, Real Betis are looking to cash in on the midfielder straightaway, and they believe that they can earn double of what they paid for him. Everton are said to be keeping track of this talented midfielder. Lo Celso has played a massive role for the La Liga outfit this season as he has managed to score 16 goals in all competitions including 5 in the Europa League. Those are impressive numbers for a central midfielder.
We feel that given Lo Celso’s form, Betis can earn a quick profit as they try to seek close to £40m for the ten times Argentine international. It would be interesting to see whether the Toffees can beat Tottenham in the transfer market as the North London giants can offer the 23-year-old a chance to play in the Champions League.
Real Betis played European football this season, but they are going to miss out on the next season of the Europa League as they are currently sitting on the 13th spot in the La Liga.
What will Lo Celso bring to the table?
The 23-year-old is a complete all-round midfield package as he has decent overall abilities. His dribbling skills and attacking flair stands out, and he can easily play in an advanced role in the attacking third. However, he also has that muscle and robustness to his game which makes him an ideal player in the middle of the park. His attacking contribution stands at 21 for the season, and that signifies that he can consistently come up with goals and assists.
The midfielder joined Paris Saint Germain in 2016 but never managed to establish himself given the star players they have in their team. However, they might feel that they made a mistake in letting lo Ceslo depart.
What does this mean for Andre Gomes deal?
Everton have decent options in midfield, but it is yet not clear whether they would be able to sign Andre Gomes permanently. We feel that Lo Celso might just be a better option than Gomes given his attacking contribution. Also, the Toffees might be shifting their target from the Portuguese to the Argentine international as it is unlikely that they would sign both midfielders.
