According to a recent report by the Daily Express, Barcelona are plotting a surprise move to secure the signature of Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
The same source has revealed that the Catalans monitored the French striker’s performance when he scored a brace for the Gunners against Valencia in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semifinal tie. The Express also state that Ernesto Valverde’s team could cough up £70m so that they can lure the French goal-getter to the Nou Camp.
Lacazette’s Majestic Spell In The Premier League
Lacazette has enjoyed a productive campaign with the North London outfit so far, but he has been occasionally subjected to making appearances from the bench. Hence, a change in scenery could be too appealing for the Frenchman to ignore, especially when it comes to moving to Barcelona.
The 27-year-old has featured in 46 matches for Unai Emery’s side this term, scoring 18 goals while creating 12 assists in all competitions. He has also played for his nation at various youth ranks before representing France at the senior level, making 16 appearances while scoring three goals for them thus far.
What Could The French Frontman Bring To The Nou Camp?
Lacazette boasts blistering pace which enables him to run with the ball at top speed. He is also an accomplished finisher inside the opposition penalty area. The French forward is one of the most prolific goal-scorers in European football so Barca will do well to prize him away from the Emirates Stadium.
The potential acquisition of Lacazette will undoubtedly bolster Valverde’s attacking options at the Nou Camp. Luis Suarez is heading into the twilight years of his career while Ousmane Dembele might not be ready to play regularly in Valverde’s first-team just yet so Lacazette could be an ideal solution for Barca’s goal-scoring worries up top.
Should The Catalans Sign Lacazette This Summer?
He will also be an excellent replacement for Suarez when the Uruguay international finally decides to call it a day at Barca in the coming years. Hence, the Catalans should go all out in pursuit of the former Olympique Lyonnais sensation ahead of the new campaign.
