Manchester United travelled to the John Smith’s Stadium to clash heads with Huddersfield Town earlier this afternoon looking to get a win and stay alive in the top 4 race. The Red Devils made a fast start to the game and took the lead in the 8th minute when Scott McTominay scored from close range. However, the home team defended valiantly and threatened on the counter to go into the half-time break with just a goal splitting the two teams.
The second half was more of the same with the Terriers looking to cause a few problems for the Man United defenders on the counter. They finally managed to score the equaliser in the 59th minute via Isaac Mbenza’s calm finish. The match ended with the final scoreline of 1-1 with both teams sharing the spoils.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against the Terriers.
GK: David De Gea – 6.5/10
The Spanish keeper pulled off a few important saves to keep his team in the contest. However, he failed to keep a clean sheet today which will disappoint him.
RB: Ashley Young – 5/10
The English talent was not able to influence the game going forward. He was way too defensive against the Terriers when his team needed him to step up and create chances in the opposition half.
CB: Victor Lindelöf – 6/10
He kept his composure under pressure and retained possession well for his team.
CB: Phil Jones – 4/10
The English defender made a catastrophic mistake which could have gifted Huddersfield the equaliser. He was also guilty of squandering an excellent chance to give his team the all-important lead in the second half.
LB: Luke Shaw – 2/10
The English full-back failed to make an impact in the opposition half and made a huge mistake which led to the Terriers equalising around the hour mark when Mbenza scored with a neat finish.
CM: Scott McTominay – 7.5/10
The Man United youngster was a bit fortunate with his goal in the first half. He worked hard and was one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s better players on the pitch.
CM: Nemanja Matic – 5.5/10
The Serbian international protected the Man United backline well but lacked creativity at the centre of the park.
CM: Paul Pogba – 6/10
The French star was unfortunate not to have scored during the game. He rattled the crossbar twice and was a frustrated figure in midfield.
RM: Juan Mata – 7/10
The Spanish playmaker did what he does best, make plays for others around him. Most of the good build-up plays that the Red Devils came up with against the Terriers went through Mata.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 4/10
The English forward is completely out of form, and it was on clear display today. Rashford never looked like he had a goal in him.
LM: Alexis Sánchez – 2/10
Another dismal display from the Chilean winger. Based on his performance today, Sanchez should never be given a chance to play for Man United again.
Substitutes:
LM: Tahith Chong – 6/10
The youngster came off the bench to add some energy and dynamism to the Man United midfield.
CM: Ander Herrera – 5/10
The Spanish midfielder struggled to get into the rhythm of the encounter and was largely ineffective during his time on the pitch.
RB: Diogo Dalot – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
