According to the Turkish show, Kırmızı Çizgi (via Sports Witness), Istanbul Basaksehir midfielder Irfan Kahveci will leave the Turkish SuperLig in favour of a move to an English club at the end of this campaign. The show went on to state (translated by Sports Witness), “Irfan Can is likely to leave the club at the end of the season. That’s why he is not performing very well recently.”
Does West Ham Need A Player Like Kahveci?
Sports Witness had later confirmed the identity of the English club, and it’s West Ham United. There is no doubt that the Hammers can use a player of Kahveci’s talents especially after enduring an inconsistent campaign at the London Stadium thus far. Declan Rice and Mark Noble have been the two ever-present members of Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield, but there are doubts over Jack Wilshere and Manuel Lanzini as they have both struggled with injuries this season.
Hence, bringing in a fresh face in midfield could help the Hammers close the gap to the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ in the upcoming campaign. Kahveci has enjoyed a solid year with the Istanbul outfit after putting in some match-winning displays for them during this season.
The Turkish midfielder has registered four goals while creating five assists in 33 matches for Basakshir this term across all competitions.
His contributions on the pitch have helped the Turkish outfit climb to the top of the Super Lig standings with just a few games left to play in this campaign. The 23-year-old has represented his country at various youth levels and has earned six international caps for the Turkish national team thus far.
What Will The Turkish Talent Add To Pellegrini’s Team?
Kahveci boasts decent pace and is a productive dribbler with the ball in the opposition half. He also has a wide passing range but needs to add more goals and assists to his game if he wants to be successful in the Premier League someday.
The potential acquisition of Kahveci will undoubtedly improve Pellegrini’s midfield options at the London Stadium. He will not only add more quality to the Hammers midfield but could also help them compete for some silverware in the coming years.
