Middlesbrough went through a wretched run of form not too long ago as they succumbed to six back to back defeats. However, Tony Pulis managed to turn the tide, and they have now won four of their last five games. They still don’t have their destiny in their hands as Derby County sits on the sixth spot leading Boro by one point.
Their draw against the Swans would give the Teessiders some hope. What would give them more confidence is that they are set to face West Brom in their final game. However, for all the hopes and dreams to come true, Middlesbrough will first need to do their bit by defeating league strugglers Rotherham United.
Last time these two sides met, the Millers were able to earn a draw against them so it wouldn’t be as straightforward as everyone might think. However, Rotherham’s current run of form is poor as they have picked up just one point from their last five games.
Team News
Dael Fry and Daniel Ayala who were mainstays at the back are out for the season. George Friend. Lewis Wing and Sam McQueen are likely to miss out.
Middlesbrough Predicted Lineup Vs Rotherham
Formation (3-5-1-1)
Defence
Darren Randolph will continue as the goalkeeper. Pulis is likely to opt for a back three, and the right side of the three is likely to be occupied by Paddy McNair who has filled in well in the absence of the main defenders. Aden Flint is the leader at the back after the injuries to Fry and Ayala. Flint would start in the heart of the defence. Typically a right back, Ryan Shotton is expected to fill in as a left-sided centre back.
Midfield
Versatile midfielder Jonny Howson is expected to start in a right wing-back role. Experienced midfielder Adam Clayton will continue to play as a central midfielder. Former Chelsea player Jon Obi Mikel should partner him. Everton loanee Muhamed Besic will complete a tight midfield three. Besic will be in a more extravagant role, and he would often push forward. The club managed to solve Stewart Downing’s contract situation, and the English winger will start as a left wing back.
Attack
Ashley Fletcher was used in the previous game as a shadow striker, but he hasn’t managed to create much impact on his team. So we are expecting Jordan Hugill to get the nod to start as a secondary striker. Britt Assombalonga is expected to lead the line for the Teessiders in this all-important clash.
