According to the latest report from the Herald as cited by Daily Record, Rangers are going to consider a loan bid for Watford’s striker Andre Gray. It is being said that Gray has emerged as an option for the Bears if they decide to cash in on Alfredo Morelos in the summer.
The Hornets signed the then Burnley striker for a whopping fee of £18m in 2017. The forward though hasn’t managed to establish himself in the starting eleven as their club captain Troy Deeney is still going strong. Gray has often been used as a substitute or in the starting eleven when Deeney has been injured or suspended.
We feel that Watford would like to keep hold of him given Deeney’s age. Even though he hasn’t seen regular playing time, Gray has managed nine goals this season in 31 appearances in all competitions.
It would be interesting to see what kind of money Rangers are willing to offer Watford to get Gray on a one-year loan spell. Rangers need to consider signing a striker as Alfredo Morelos could be in demand in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Colombian ace has attracted plenty of interest in his time at Ibrox, and there is a good chance that Gerrard might look to cash in on him.
Rangers have a solid option in the form of Jermain Defoe, but the veteran English forward might not be able to play week in week out. Recently Gerrard indicated that he is not happy with certain players’ commitment and desire to play for Rangers and Kyle Lafferty’s name was also on the list. Therefore there is every chance that the club might look to sell the Northern Irish striker in the summer.
What will Gray offer?
In that case, the club will have to sign a striker and Gray can be top option to have. He is physically robust but can surprise quite a few defenders with his pace. The former Burnley player can be an excellent all-round striker as he is strong on the ball and can make runs in between the defence lines. The Englishman knows how to find the back of the net as he is uncomplicated in his approach and he could be game-changing signing for the Gers.
Chances of Rangers signing him?
However, we don’t see Javi Gracia letting him leave in the summer. It’s true that Gray hasn’t managed many starts, but he still is a crucial squad player for them. Deeney has become injury prone in the last few years slightly, and Gray is an able deputy for him.
