According to a recent report by L’Equipe (via the Daily Mirror), Liverpool are set to rekindle their interest on Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Nabil Fekir during the summer transfer period. However, the same source has also revealed that the Reds will face stiff competition from Juventus and Manchester City in pursuit of the Ligue 1 sensation in this off-season.
Fekir’s Prolific Season In The Ligue 1
Fekir has enjoyed another stellar campaign at Lyon Olympic Stadium after putting in some match-winning displays during this season. He has been a prolific goal-scorer for the French club from midfield over the past couple of years. Hence, maybe a change in scenery this summer could be an ideal move for his career right now.
The France international has featured in 36 matches for Lyon this term, finding the back of the net on 12 occasions while creating seven assists across multiple competitions. He was also a part of the French squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Liverpool were close to signing Fekir last summer only for the deal to fall through at the final hurdle. Hence, it would be quite a surprise if Jurgen Klopp decides to go back in for the player ahead of the new campaign.
What Will The French Midfielder Add To Klopp’s Team?
There is no denying the fact that Klopp needs a new creative attacking midfielder who can open up the most rigid of defences with his vision. Fekir certainly falls in that category mainly due to his playmaking abilities. He is also a consistent goal-scorer from midfield which is why so many elite clubs are looking to recruit him this summer.
Fekir has decent pace and is an excellent dribbler with the ball. He will add some healthy competition for places for players such as Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane up front which will enable the Merseyside giants to compete on all fronts next season.
Should The Reds Make A Move For Him Again This Summer?
However, it will be a step backwards if Liverpool does decide to go back in for the Ligue 1 star. Klopp should instead concentrate on signing other more proven talents in the upcoming transfer market.
