Everton travelled to Selhurst Park earlier today hoping to build on their 4-0 win over Manchester United from last weekend. The Toffees dominated the ball in the first half but failed to convert any of their chances. The visitors lacked the cutting edge early on which allowed Palace to get a foothold in the game.
The second half was more of the same with both teams fighting hard, but there was nothing to split them in the end as the match finished with a drab scoreline of 0-0 today.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the match against the Eagles.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6.5/10
The English keeper was hardly troubled in goal as the Palace attackers failed to test him often. He was also very tidy with his distribution on his way to securing a comfortable clean sheet at the back.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 7/10
He worked his socks off at right-back and was defensively sound during the contest. He kept Wilfried Zaha quiet which forced Roy Hodgson to shift the Palace attacker to the other flank in the second half.
CB: Michael Keane – 7/10
The Everton centre-back kept his cool under pressure and never let the Palace attackers get the better of him.
CB: Kurt Zouma – 8/10
The French talent was aerially dominant and defended valiantly to keep a well-deserved shut-out today.
LB: Lucas Digne – 6.5/10
The French left-back struggled to make an impact in the first half. However, despite making a shaky start, Digne put in a solid shift in the second half.
CM: Morgan Schneiderlin – 5/10
He struggled to retain possession in midfield in the first half. He was average at best in the second.
CM: Idrissa Gueye – 7/10
The Toffees midfielder put in another tireless shift at the centre of the park and snuffed out quite a few Palace attacks during the encounter.
RM: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian talent was woeful with his decision-making in the final third. However, he did link up well with his teammates down the right flank.
CAM: Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6/10
The Icelandic international passed the ball well without creating too many chances in the opposition half. He will be hoping for more eventful days in an Everton shirt.
LM: Bernard – 6/10
He showed some glimpses of his brilliance but didn’t do enough to conjure up a goal in the attacking third of the pitch.
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 5.5/10
The Toffees centre-forward couldn’t take any of the chances that fell in his path. He needs to find the finishing touch in front of the opposing goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Cenk Tosun – 6/10
The Turkish forward came close to breaking the deadlock soon after coming off the bench.
LM: Ademola Lookman – N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
RM: Theo Walcott – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the contest.
