According to the latest reports from the Metro, Barcelona are preparing to test Manchester United’s resolve as they are set to offer £100m for their young attacker Marcus Rashford. The reigning La Liga champions are known to have a long term interest in the Manchester United’s academy product, and their offer can tempt Rashford.
The Catalan giants believe that if the Red Devils fail to make it to the Champions League, then the player’s head could be turned. The forward has his contract at the club until 2020. With the player set to enter in the final year of his contract, £100m for him doesn’t look like a bad offer to us.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to make a significant overhaul of the squad to get United to their former glory, and they can use the funds from Rashford’s sale to bolster their other departments.
Why are Barcelona after a forward?
The Blaugrana have been linked with plenty of forwards in the last few months, and it is clear that they are looking for a long term replacement for Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan has served the club well over the years, but everyone would agree that his performances have dropped in the past year. He is still churning up goals and remains a significant threat, but Ernesto Valverde is on the right track in looking for a replacement for him.
Is Rashford a good bet for Valverde?
The striker has been around for quite a few years now, and he is still just 21. The Englishman already has 31 appearances for his national team and is seen as an excellent prospect for his club and country. Rashford is versatile enough to play in any position in the attacking third. Solskjaer has used him down the middle, and that has brought good results to the team as his pace and directness have helped United play in the counter-attack system.
Rashford has managed 13 goals and nine assists this season for the Red Devils and has shown plenty of promising signs. However, the youngster is still raw and inconsistent, and he needs a bit of moulding to reach his true potential. It would be interesting to see how he would settle in at Barcelona as his link-up play is still not great. Given the way Barcelona play, he might take some time to settle in at the club.
Maybe the Catalan giants are seeing him more as a winger than a striker. However, we feel that Rashford can be a great goal scorer in a few years as he shows great composure in front of goal for a youngster. So we think that his best position is through the middle.
