It was a heavily contested match between Watford and Southampton. The Saints took the lead in the very first minute of the game with the fastest ever Premier League goal with just seven seconds on the clock. The scoreline stayed the same way until the 90th minute. After Shane Long put his side in the lead, the Hornets tried to find an opening throughout the match but could not find one.
However, it was in the last minute of the regulation play that striker Andre Gray equalised for his side and ended all hopes of Saints’ securing a crucial away win. The Englishman converted a cross from Daryl Janmaat into the match-saving goal that will see them move up to to the seventh position in the league table.
Here is how the Watford players were rated from their draw against Southampton.
Ben Foster: 7
Made a series of fine saves to keep his side in the match after the early setback they had to face. Had a decent game in the goal.
Daryl Janmaat: 7
Kept getting the ball up the pitch with his accurate passing and darting runs down the right flank. It was his touch on the ball that helped land it at a hittable height for Gray as he rescued a point for his side.
Craig Cathcart: 6
Allowed Long to take the shot on the goal in the opening minute. Dished out a solid defensive display for the rest of the match though. Was forced off the pitch at halftime with an injury.
Christian Kabasele: 7
Kept the opposition attackers away from the goal with his physicality. Made some excellent clearances and tackles.
Etienne Capoue: 6
A reliable and composed display in the middle of the pitch in the first half. Lost his composure to some extent in the second half and allowed Southampton players to create openings.
Abdoulaye Doucouré: 7
His physicality was challenging to deal with for the opposition players. Intercepted and broke down several attacks in the middle of the pitch.
Will Hughes: 6.5
Kept making inroads whenever possible with his darting runs down the middle of the pitch. Took some shots on goal as well which were not accurate.
Roberto Pereyra: 6
Looked a little subdued in the first half. Came back well after the break and made a few inroads into the box but lacked the end product.
Gerard Deulofeu: 7
His agility and ability to create space for aiming for the goal was somehow dealt with by the Saints. Peppered Foster with many well-taken shots from time to time.
Andre Gray: 7
Had an insignificant first half in terms of chances. Kept getting into the danger area and started pushing for the goal and got his reward right in the dying minutes of the match.
Substitutes
Kiko Femenia: 6
Did well in his short stint after he replaced the injured Cathcart at half time.
Issac Success: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
