Portsmouth secured the services of Omar Bogle from Cardiff City on loan in January. The forward has played a decent role for Kenny Jackett’s side since then as he has grabbed six goals in 11 appearances. The Pompey are on a terrific run of form as they have now managed eight wins in a row. The automatic promotion spot which looked impossible earlier on looks achievable once more.
Portsmouth have quite a few players on loan this season who have done well. The team though suffered for using this formula as quite a few on loan players returned to their parent clubs in January and Jackett’s men suffered a slump in form during that time. Therefore it will be necessary for Portsmouth to turn some of the loan deals into permanent ones in the future especially if they make it to the Championship.
Omar Bogle is currently out with injury, but he has shown enough evidence that he can be a decent signing for the club. Portsmouth though doesn’t have an option to sign him permanently, and they would have to negotiate a new deal for him.
What update did Jackett give on a permanent deal?
Jackett in March claimed that the deal hinges on what Cardiff City would want for the player. The manager had said (The News), ”He’s got a year left on his contract at Cardiff. There have been no discussions with what we do in the summer. Cardiff will obviously see which division they’re in but he has got a year left at Cardiff, and we will see which division they’re in. But he has a year left, and there have been no discussions yet.’
Oliver Hawkins has usually led the line in the absence of Bogle, and he has managed seven goals in 35 appearances in League One. The numbers are quite clear and evident that Bogle has done a much better job than him in front of goal.
Chances of signing him permanently?
It remains to be seen how much Cardiff City would demand for the forward. The Bluebirds are likely to be relegated from the Premier League so they might want to keep hold of someone like Bogle to help them in the Championship. The forward is still 26 and has a good amount of football left in him.
We feel that the Pompey should go all out in the summer to secure him permanently as he will enter in the final year of his contract with Cardiff City. The forward also indicated that he would be willing to play at Fratton Park permanently. Therefore Jackett should be in a good position to negotiate a deal for him as the player also seems keen on a move.
