Everton will entertain Manchester United at Goodison Park at the back of a disappointing 2-0 loss away at Fulham last weekend. The Toffees need to bounce back soon or else risk ending this season on a losing note. However, the Red Devils won’t be any pushovers as they need a positive result as well.
Hence, this match has the makings of a fascinating contest between two sides going all out for the win. Marco Silva will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and might name Michael Keane and Morgan Schneiderlin in his starting XI.
4-2-3-1 Everton Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Jordan Pickford is expected to line up in goal for Everton despite shipping in two goals versus Fulham last weekend. Both Michael Keane and Kurt Zouma will operate as the centre-halves as they look to keep things tidy at the back and offer enough protection for their English keeper. However, the defensive duo would have their work cut out for them as they would be responsible for keeping Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku quiet during the encounter.
Séamus Coleman has been a regular first-team starter under Marco Silva’s tutelage in recent weeks so he will begin this match at right-back while Lucas Digne would try to make a positive impact at both ends of the pitch down the left flank.
The Toffees’ defence has kept four clean sheets in their past six outings in the Premier League. Thus, they have every reason to be optimistic about their chances of frustrating the Man United forwards on Sunday.
Midfield
The midfield pair of Idrissa Gueye and Morgan Schneiderlin could be deployed as the holding midfielders. They would be responsible for breaking down the opposition attacks and link up play between the defence and the front players. The talented trio of Bernard, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Richarlison will operate just ahead of them as they try to cause a few problems for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defenders.
Bernard has been in fine form for Everton of late so he could be the home side’s most potent weapon in the opposition half.
Andre Gomes is suspended for this clash which will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Toffees so Silva would keep his fingers crossed that Schneiderlin can put in a decent shift on Sunday.
Attack
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is expected to lead the line for the Toffees up front. Even though he has struggled to score goals consistency in the Premier League, the English forward works hard for his team and is a good outlet on the counter. Hence, he would get the nod ahead of Cenk Tosun to start versus the Red Devils.
