Arsenal have been trying to negotiate a new contract extension with Mesut Ozil but the German playmaker reportedly is putting contract talks on hold as he wants Arsene Wenger to sign a new contract first.
Wenger’s contract with Arsenal is due to expire at the end of this season. The 66-year old who recently celebrated his 20 years with The Gunners is yet to sign a new contract. Wenger played an important role in luring Ozil to the club.
Arsenal signed the 28-year-old from Real Madrid in 2013. Ozil proved to be a master class signing for Arsenal and has been a key player for them since his arrival. The German International provided 19 assists last season that helped Arsenal to secure the second position.
Earlier it was reported that Ozil wanted a huge pay rise over his current salary but it now it would seem seem the actual reason behind his holding off to a new contract is the French man’s future. Wenger has a very good relation with the player who also played an influential role in bringing Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona in 2014. The Gunners boss won’t make a decision until the end of the season and Ozil is waiting for him.
