Newcastle United will travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester City who are on an impressive run of form under their new boss Brendan Rodgers. The Magpies are going into this game on the back of two losses, and Rafael Benitez’s task will be cut out.
United have struggled on the road, and their major problem has been scoring goals. They have managed just 12 goals in 16 away games this season in the Premier League which is the worst record for any side outside of the relegation zone. On the other hand, Leicester’s goals are flowing, and the home side will go in as the favourites.
Team News
Florian Lejeune and Sean Longstaff are the only major injury concern for Benitez. Lejeune was stretchered off in the last game against Crystal Palace. The defender is unlikely to play again this season.
Newcastle United Predicted Lineup Vs Leicester City
Formation (5-4-1)
Defence
Martin Dubravka will continue as the first choice goalkeeper for the Toon. Jamaal Lascelles is expected to operate in the heart of the defence. Paul Dummett is likely to fill in the left centre back option as Lejeune is injured. Fabian Schar should be on the right to complete the defensive setup.
They will be supported by Matt Ritchie down the left who will be in a wing-back role. However, when out of possession, the Englishman will often drop back and will form a back five. DeAndre Yedlin will be in a similar position down the right flank.
Midfield
Even though Sean Longstaff has been unavailable, Jonjo Shelvey has failed to find a place in the starting line-up. Ki Sung-Yueng is expected to start in central midfield. Isaac Hayden should partner him in the central areas of midfield.
United’s record signing Miguel Almiron should start on the left flank. The attacker will look to get on the ball and drive forward on the counter-attack. Ayoze Perez will start from the right side, but he will often take up central positions to support the striker.
Attack
Salomon Rondon has more or less carried the goals scoring burden on himself throughout the season. Once again he will be expected to produce results up front. However, the Magpies need to provide more service to him so that the Venezuelan can influence the game more.
