Liverpool’s assistant coach Pep Lijnders has recently revealed in an interview with O Jogo (via the Metro) that the Reds are interested in securing the services of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves. Speaking to O Jogo (translated by the Metro), Lijnders said,
‘I know him very well, his ambition, his passion for the game, his professionalism… I know what he gives to the team and this type of players always interest us.
‘I recognised him when I saw him at Wolves. I saw technique, professionalism; I saw the 2013/14 player I knew.’
The Reds assistant manager’s recent words would be quite concerning for Wolves as they cannot risk letting go of their prized asset next summer when he is on the verge of embarking upon the peak years of his career.
The Rapid Rise Of Ruben Neves
Neves has enjoyed a solid campaign for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this term and has already put in a series of match-winning displays for them during this season. The Portuguese youngster has made 34 appearances for the West Midlands outfit this term, scoring four goals while creating three assists in all competitions.
The Wolves playmaker has shown glimpses of his true potential and is destined for a promising career ahead in English football. He will fit in well in Jurgen Klopp’s brand of football at Anfield, so if the Reds are serious about recruiting Neves, then Nuno Santo needs to find a way to fend off their interest and retain his prized asset for the long-run.
What Does The Portuguese Wonderkid Add To Nuno Santo’s Team?
Neves is a complete midfielder who has a wonderful passing range and can open up any defence with his perfectly weighted through balls from midfield. Furthermore, the Portuguese talent is a major threat from long range as he is a pure striker of the ball and his shots pack a lot of power.
The former Dragon Force starlet has established himself as an integral member of Nuno Santo’s starting XI as he has struck up one of the best midfield partnerships in the Premier League with his international compatriot, Joao Moutinho at the Molineaux Stadium.
Why Wolves Cannot Allow Neves To Leave
Neves’ current contract runs out in the summer of 2023. Hence, Wolves cannot afford to let him leave at all and should do everything they can to keep him at the West Midlands club for the next few years.
